Thievery Corporation is one of my favorite musical groups of all time. Their work is some of the most instrumentally and lyrically rich music you could listen to, often incorporating lyrics in different languages. “Meu Destino” stands out to me as I hold a fondness for Brazilian culture.
Today Bonobo is a popular name, whose DJ sets fill up venues like Avant Gardner in Bushwick. But true fans will admit that his DJ sets have nothing on his early work epitomized by the album “Days to Come.” The entire album is a must listen to, I promise it will fill up your soul with joy.
By the end of this track you’ll feel fully reset. As the name of the track denotes, Enigma’s work is full of lust and perfect for a slow and classy runway show (the Elie Saab kind). The track really takes off 5min in.
A wellness playlist would be nothing without a track by Grover Washington, Jr. His music is full of soul and he is considered by many to be one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre.
I love how futuristic and cosmopolitan this track is. Definitely something to play while running through the streets of NYC—perfectly fitting of the city’s rush.
Another great track by Thievery Corporation. I first listened to “Indra” while watching Vanilla Sky, which if you are a true Nolie, you know was a major inspiration for my move to NYC.
Get your dancing shoes on Nolies, this song will make you want to get up and start to shimmy. Born in Toyama, Japan, Susumu Yokota was one of the most prolific electronic musicians in Japan, known for his ethereal and downtempo sounds—an obvious choice for a Nol playlist.
Did I say lust? Well here is a little more… This Enigma track was popularized by the 1990s thriller Sliver (starring Sharon Stone and William Baldwin). The film is also among my favorites, depicting the decadence of a bygone NYC in the 1990s.
There is so much energy in an Ulrich Schnauss track that it is hard to choose a favorite. I first heard his music while in college—I remember pulling multiple all-nighters to his tracks. So, if you need to get some work done, this is an obvious choice.
There is something incredibly life-affirming about this song, perfect for reflection while sipping on your morning cup of coffee.
Should you be looking for track to decompress after a long day of work this winter, this is the track for you. Served best with a side of Basil Hayden.
