This song embodies resiliency at its best. I downloaded it during one of the most intense periods of my life— a time encapsulated by a lot of anger. There was a cancer diagnosis, a failed career transition into advertising, and heartbreak that at times felt worse than the cancer. This song allowed me to tune out everything in the world and focus on the road ahead.
This song is pure luxury. It is probably what everyone is listening to in Nirvana
I felt instantly connected to this song when I first heard it on Pandora. It is incredibly romantic and sensual. It reminds me of that overconsuming love, the often unhealthy kind that we are so blind to. I think this might be the soundtrack to my life. Whenever I listen to it, I envision a movie scene in an underground club (like the one in Vanilla Sky), in a neighborhood like DUMBO before it was DUMBO. So Basically Long Island City?
Growing up, I hated rap— it embodied everything I was running away from. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate the cockiness that comes through in rap. We all experience times in which we need a little confidence boost and this song does it for me.
The perfect setting for this is a winter night with a whiskey neat.
Play this to set the tone during a romantic date.
I told myself I wouldn’t include more than one Sade song (otherwise the entire playlist would revolve around Sade). This song in particular reminds me of love and how magical it can be.
Scorpios tend to attract haters (or so my mom used to tell me). I would like to dedicate this to all the haters. And yes, I am very much aware that I’ve included two Sade songs.
